Pioneer
The history of the acquisition of experience in Huhtamaki Molded Fiber begins earlier than the emergence of the Huhtamaki group itself in 1920. In 1935 Huhtamaki Lurgan secured the first license to manufacture and market moulded fibre products in Europe from the Keyes Fiber Company, established by Martin L.Keyes in Maine, USA in 1903.
Pioneer in this technology Keyes Fiber commenced moulded fibre egg packaging production in 1927 and is now a part of the Huhtamaki Molded Fiber Group as well.
The establishment of Lurgan was then followed by Huhtamaki Netherlands in 1938; Huhtamaki La Rochelle in 1960, and Huhtamaki Norway in 1964.
Market growth
In 1979 the group decided to extend its market, use its experience and know-how collected over the years. Huhtamaki Molded Fiber Technology started to market its moulded fibre machinery and process technology. In order to secure the raw material supply the group entered the recovered paper trade by establishing Huhtamaki Paper Recycling BV in 1985.
Huhtamaki Ceska republika was acquired in 1993, but had already started moulded fibre production in 1948.
Expand plants
Since then the technology has evolved and Huhtamaki has acquired plants employing the company's own proprietary Leotech® moulded fibre technology in Europe, Americas, Oceania and Africa.
Huhtamaki Australia started moulded fibre production in the 1950's and was acquired in with Huhtamaki New Zealand in 1999. Huhtamaki South Africa has manufactured moulded fibre products since1955, while Huhtamaki Brazil started activities in 1989 as TrombiniS/A.
Protective packaging
The growing demand for environmentally friendly, customized and tailor-made 3D packaging solutions out of moulded fibre led to the start of Huhtamaki Protective Packaging in 1996.
Huhtamaki Egypt commenced production of moulded fibre egg packaging in 2000 and in 2003 Huhtamaki Russia was established with the group's newest technology to service the growing Russian market.
